Many women give up their career after marriage to build a home and look after the family. Many people believe that life is easy for homemakers as they have nothing much to do (which is NOT true). However, running after kids, cooking, cleaning and running errands leaves them with no time for themselves. They stop caring about what they eat, what they wear and how they look, which takes a huge toll on their identity without them actually realising it! Being a mom becomes a large part of your life and if you don't take care of your health, it is bound to affect your personality as a parent. Here are five things that every stay at home mom should stop doing right now!
1. Eating leftovers: 'There are two extra chapatis from last night? I will reheat and eat it'. Many women cook a fresh meal for their husbands and children but eat the leftover food themselves. If there is excess food from last night, the whole family should eat it together. When cooked food is stored for a long time, even if it is in a refrigerator, the microbial load of the food increases. Plus, when the food is reheated, most of the nutrients is lost because of the heat. So the leftover food you eat has very little nutrition left. 2. Wearing yoga pants everywhere: From running errands to picking up your child from school, many stay-at-home moms tend to wear yoga pants everywhere. Yes, you are busy, you have a lot of work at home, but it hardly takes a minute to change into a pair of jeans. Driving to your child's school in yoga pants does more damage than you can imagine. Not only will your child not like you looking all sloppy and out of place, but what if you bump into your child's teacher? The first impression is always the last, make sure you are dressed neatly because don't forget the world loves to judge moms!
3. Not knowing what is happening around: While you are busy taking care of your kids and husband, it is important to remember that there is more to life than those two people and there is a functioning world outside your home. Not reading the newspaper, or watching the news and being unaware of your surroundings is a big mistake that stay-at-home moms make. It is important because it makes you more confident, vigilant and you will always have something to talk about on your WhatsApp and Facebook groups! 4. Giving up your me time: Doing the chores and spending quality time with your kids leaves very little time for yourself. But that doesn't mean you stop doing what you love. Sacrificing your hobby is not the price you need to pay to take care of your family. Make some time out of your busy schedule to pursue your hobbies. You probably love shopping and do it most of the time but end up buying stuff for your kids or the home. Next time just shop for yourself. Plan a date with yourself. Pamper yourself at a spa, eat your lunch outside and shop for yourself.
5. Being dependent on someone else: Many times, when you are a homemaker you are not only financially dependent but also become emotionally and physically dependent. Most women lose their independence and start relying on their family for the smallest possible thing, like even going out to buy groceries. Just remember, independence is not a price you pay to be a homemaker.
