Many people are under the impression that one should avoid all forms of exercise during their menstrual period. Characterised by cramps, abdominal pain, bloating, irritability, mood swings and fatigue, exercising is usually the last thing on your mind during this time. Walks
Walking regularly is an excellent exercise for toning; shaping your body, and it helps burn calories at the same time. It is important to choose the pace or speed according to your level of fitness. Walking requires no special equipment and is easy and convenient. At the same time, it provides aerobic conditioning, strength and endurance. Yoga stretches
Yoga is a highly recommended form of exercise while menstruation as it relaxes your mood, improves posture and promotes blood circulation and muscle strength. Slow and gentle yoga stretches under professional guidance can help in easing cramps and pain. You can also work on strengthening your core muscles. If the pain is acute, then cut down on strenuous activities. Yoga stretches like bhujangasan, dhanurasan, naukasan, twists, side stretches, tadasan, cat pose, child pose and some slow and gentle crunches are recommended to alleviate or reduce the symptoms. Here are some ways to beat menstrual cramps with yoga. Poses like the headstand, shoulder stand and plough pose could be skipped.
Listen to your body
Please note that you are advised to listen to your body and carry out workouts at a suitable pace. You should avoid overexerting yourself with strenuous exercises.
Maintain the right form
Make sure that your workouts are done under supervision or guidance for proper posture, form and motivation to avoid any injury. Do regular breathing exercises and don’t miss out on your sleep and rest. Breathing exercises could curb stress in obese women.
